Krátka zbraň typu 1911 je jednoznačne najúspešnejšou konštrukciou krátkej zbrane minulého storočia a ako sa zdá, hodlá tento úspech zopakovať i v 21. storočí. Množstvo výrobcov ponúka nespočetné množstvo modelov vychádzajúcoch z Coltu 1911 v rôznych modifikáciách líšiacich sa dĺžkou hlavne, záveru, rámu, spúšťovýcm mechanizmom, kalibrom, kapacitou zásobníka, … Pred 28 rokmi založená spoločnosť Kimber v štáte Oregon (dnes sídlom v Yonkers, NY) sa zaradila v podstate nedávno k týmto výrobcom. V neuveriteľne krátkej dobe vďaka kvalitnej výrobe a širokému portfóliu ponúkaných zbraní dosiahla prvenstvo v množstve predaných zbraní typu 1911.

Receptom na úspech bolo predovšetkým použitie kvalitných materiálov (Kimber vyrába závery a rámy zbraní trieskovým obrábaním z plného kovaného polotovaru), obrábaných na CNC systémoch (umožňujúcich pri výrobe zohľadniť nielen požadované rozmery produktu, ale aj stupeň opotrebenia nástrojov).
